What is

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on applying acquired skills to help curb anxious or depressive episodes. CBT seeks to help an individual learn that their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all linked. During each session, your therapist will work with you to examine the assumptions and attitudes that play a role in how we interpret situations.

By the end of the course, your goal is to help you recognize and, work to correct, automatic negative thoughts that lead you to struggle with negative emotions such as depression, anxiety, fear, or hopelessness.

Why should I consider CBT?

CBT has been developed through research on effective strategies to improve mood states. It is therefore an “evidence-based “form of treatment. Here are a few main reasons to consider Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:

  • You will learn to identify unrealistic, or irrational, thoughts and develop healthier thinking patterns.

  • During the 12-week curriculum, you will discover effective ways to overcome your depression or anxiety symptoms that could be holding you back or preventing you enjoying life to its fullest.

  • CBT can be delivered in different settings-both individual and group experiences.

  • Skills learned can be applied for a lifetime.

  • A full course of CBT can be as effective as two trials of medication!
